“If state and business leaders do not act, 1.5 million workers and their children could be unemployable or stuck in low-wage jobs: an endless cycle of poverty.”
Southern Regional Education Board
Georgia’s 2030 Economic Outlook 2019
It is estimated that 3,2 million employment-eligible Georgians are not working, state reporting a worker shortage of 230.000 in 2023.
In 15 years, only 52.8 Georgia residents have earned degrees and credentials...
FCOYI was founded in December 2018 with support from the Ready By 2020 Initiative, started in 2016, and on September 8, 2021, we moved to our third phase of implementation by launching Ready by 2030.

What type of support and resources do youth, adults, and families need going into the holidays?
"Wife”. “Mother-of-3”. “Techie”. I never imagined that “Entrepreneur” would one day be added to my list of titles. I began my own natural hair journey 16 years ago when there weren’t many products available for my hair type. Like many naturals, I found myself becoming a “product junkie” as I exhaustingly searched for my “Holy Grail” products. This trial-and-error got old very quick, especially when I noticed the toll that it was taking on my wallet. Hair products are expensive! That’s when I decided to educate myself on the ingredients. Not long after, I had the ability to ignore what a product claimed it would do on the label and forecast how my hair would react by reading the ingredient list. Being an avid gardener, I was thrilled when I discovered that natural ingredients worked far better for my own hair than the ones that I couldn’t even pronounce nor easily access. And from this realization, Ecoslay was born. It’s been amazing watching the brand grow throughout the years. I now have over 30 global retailers and 40K followers on social media. But what keeps me grounded is my relentless adherence to these core values:
* Reach one, teach one: I believe that it is my responsibility to share what I’ve learned about ingredients, haircare and even entrepreneurship with my customers.
* Use ingredients that are good for you: I firmly believe that you are what you eat and what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN it.
* Respect the environment: This home is not just ours. We only get to take in its awe because of those that have come before us. This means that we have a responsibility to consider those that will come after us.
Igola Richardson-Jordan is the Coordinator of the Banneker S.A.F.E. Center. In addition to her love for education, students, families, teachers, and communities, she also has a background in ministry, radio, and television. Along with her team she launched the first S.A.F.E. Center in Fulton County Schools at Banneker High School in 2018, receiving a visit from the State Superintendent Richard Woods and being selected as a state model. S.A.F.E Centers integrate student support by addressing out-of-school barriers to learning through partnerships with social and health service agencies while engaging family and community members as school partners. Ultimately, the goal of the centers is to build a culture of professional learning, collective trust, and shared responsibility for the school and community. She continues to share what she has learned with other educators and communities interested in supporting our young people, their families, and communities. There are currently two other S.A.F.E. Centers in Fulton County- North Springs and Tri-Cities High Schools, with other counties opening up similar models.

• Demand for digital skills is saturated across the U.S.
Digital skills are required regardless of education or experience.
Digital skills enable workers to earn more and contribute more to the tax base.
• Workers earn more when they acquire industry/occupation specific digital skills.
Georgia's most in-demand foundational digital skills include: computer literacy, typing, data entry, word processing, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
• From patient tracking and medical devices to using mobile devices and conducting inventory management, jobs are more digital than we realize.
The Fulton County Opportunity Youth Initiative's (FCOYI) main goal is to make sure that Opportunity Youth and UnderEmployed Ages 15-29 are ready, identify pathways of interest, develop essential and workplace skills, have local and remote access to education, career training opportunities with industry certifications, and placement in a high demand job or career.
